Universal Bath Design: Essential and Important Features

This course will explain best practices when designing Universal bathrooms, based on ADA Access standards and the principles of Universal Design. We will review the sustainable qualities, durability and extended life-cycle of bathrooms and bath fixtures and discuss how these qualities support a lasting bath design.

Learning Objectives:
1. Distinguish between accessible design and Universal Design (UD) for all human beings
2. Describe integrated comprehensive planning at the time a home is designed and explain how this translates into extended usefulness of the home and happier, healthier lives for it’s owners
3. Describe how independence is frequently lost because of difficulties using non-universally designed bathrooms
4. List current ADA requirements that are utilized for a universally designed bathroom
